About Para Hills:
Location and Boundaries
Para Hills is bounded by McIntyre Road, Nelson Road and the suburb of Gulfview Heights in the north, the City of Tea Tree Gully in the east, Milne Road, Nelson Road, Milne Road, Monaco Court, Sloan Road and Maxwell Road in the south and Bridge Road in the west.
The prefix “Para” is derived from the Kaurna word “Pari” meaning a stream of flowing water, which could refer to either the Little Para River or Dry Creek.
Settlement of the area dates from 1847, with land used mainly for farming, particularly sheep grazing. Residential development of the area occurred primarily during the 1960s and 1970s. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, and then was relatively stable between 2001 and 2011, largely a result of little change in dwelling stock.
Para Hills is an established residential area with park lands.
Major features of the area include Baden Park, Lane Reserve, Para Hills Oval, Para Hills Reserve, Prettejohn Reserve, Thomas Reserve and two schools.
