Parafield Gardens is bounded by Kings Road in the north, the railway line in the east, the suburb of Green Fields in the south and Port Wakefield Road and the Little Para River in the west.
Settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s, with land used mainly for farming and quarrying. Significant development occurred in the post-war years, following the sale of land in 1958. The South Australian Housing Trust began construction in Parafield Gardens in the 1970s. The population generally increased gradually from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area.
Parafield Gardens is an established residential and industrial area, with industry located mainly in the south-western section.
Major features of the area include Martins Plaza Shopping Centre, Morella Community Centre, Parafield Gardens Recreation Centre, AGH Cox Reserve, Andrew Smith Oval, Baltimore Reserve, Creaser Park, Electra Reserve, Heyford Reserve, Ohio Reserve, Parafield Gardens Oval, Reg Groth Reserve, Ryans Ponds Reserve and numerous schools.
