Paralowie is bounded by Burton Road, Bolivar Road and Waterloo Corner Road in the north, the Little Para River in the east and south and Port Wakefield Road and Deuter Road in the west.
Paralowie is named from the words ‘para’ meaning a stream of water, and ‘lowie’ meaning water.
Settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s, with land used mainly for market gardens and farms. Significant development did not occur until the post-war years. Rapid growth took place from the 1980s through to the mid 1990s. Growth continued at a slower rate from 1996 as new dwellings continued to be added to the area.
Paralowie is a relatively recent residential area.
