About Salisbury South:

Location and Boundaries
Salisbury South is bounded by Frost Road, Porter Street and Saints Road in the north, Fenden Road and Cross Keys Road in the east, Frost Road, Spains Road and Burton Road in the south and the Little Para River and the railway line in the west.

Name Origin
Salisbury is named after a town in Wiltshire, England.

Settlement History
Settlement of the area dates from 1847 when land was purchased. The township was established in 1848 when allotments were sold. Until the mid 1900s the area was used mainly for farming, particularly citrus orchards. Growth took place from the 1950s, with significant development in the 1960s and 1970s. In more recent years the town centre has been redeveloped. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, was relatively stable between 2001 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.

Land Use
Salisbury South is an established residential area with parklands and commercial areas.
