About Walkley Heights:
Location and Boundaries
Parts of the suburb of Walkley Heights are located in the City of Tea Tree Gully and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield respectively.
Walkley Heights is named after John Walkley, an early pioneer of South Australia.
Settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s. Significant development occurred in the post-war years. Substantial growth took place in Walkley Heights from the late 1990s on land formerly part of the Yatala Labour Prison. The population continued to increase between 2001 and 2006 as large numbers of new dwellings were added to the area, primarily in Walkley Heights.
Walkley Heights is a residential area with parklands, and some industrial areas in the north-west.
Major features of the area include Walkley Heights Shopping Centre, Golding Oval, Kentish Green and several schools.
